Wow, that summer went by quickly! It's already August 2nd and I'm having thoughts of going back to work again.
It was a good summer. Considering we didn't really do a big vacation this year, it was still quite full.
M and I did the zoo this year. We were hoping for polar bears but they aren't ready yet. It's always fun to take the kiddo out there and hand him a camera. You never know what is going to come off the memory card.
We went swimming a bunch. I have a nice tan to show for it. The kiddo finally figured out that going underwater was fun. He still looks like a jellyfish under there with little control over his body in the water. I wish he was swimming more proficiently but this apparently isn't the year for it.
It's interesting that as he gets closer to the age of my students I am seeing more lag between him and them. His drawings still seem crudely drawn and his lack of addition fluency worries me. He is still charmingly young for his age, but that's not all bad. He still loves his mama and I embrace every little boy day I can. They won't last much longer.
Just because I stayed home doesn't mean I didn't spend money. This weekend we finally got that truck I was saving up for. We bought a blue 2010 Ford F150. It's got all the nice bells and whistles and some I didn't know we needed, like a trailer tow package. I'm still a little apprehensive about driving such a big vehicle, but tomorrow I'm going to need something to get me to work. Backing it out of the driveway is going to take some practice.
And this summer I finally beat Warcraft, sort of. My druid healer's guild killed the Lich King, the main bad guy in the Wrath of the Lich King expansion. I'm quite proud of my character's achievement doing that and was hoping I'd get it done before the summer ended. Now I don't have to bug my family every day for two weeks with raid times in the middle of dinner.
I also got all the Sookie Stackhouse novels read this summer. I think there were 8 or 9 of them. They all flowed together eventually. These are the books that the True Blood tv series is based on. I loved the books. The show wasn't that good for me, but I did like the characters in it.
My truck is in the driveway (called the insurance company this morning), my books are all read, the Lich King is dead, and summer is winding down. Time to start thinking about my new schedule for my classroom (it's different this year, very different) and about all the things I'll need to do to get this next group of fifth graders where they need to be.
Busy times are good times. :)
