Early. My mom says her OB was on his way to a fishing trip when I was born.

A car- my 10 year old Cavalier definitely needs to retire. $5000 would make a great down payment.

What Debi Needs

While blog surfing (blurfing??) I came across this nifty little meme. Check Janet's Blog for her list.

1. Debi needs help. (This one's pretty obvious...)
2. Debi needs thoughts and prayers.
3. Debi needs the PDF for the ISR project flyers.

Shuffling the iPod

Good morning Blog Friends! And family members who read because they feel obligated by being related to me. :-)

Today I thought I'd do a meme since I haven't done any for a while.

In this challenge you set your iPod (or iTunes or other music player) to shuffle and see what the first 10 songs are that pop up. Either we'll get a pretty good picture of the kind of music I like to listen to, or we'll find out that I'm some kind of psycho music collector. LOL

Well, here goes... Shuffling now... LOL

1. Anxiety- Black Eyed Peas
     Okay, so here's what's wrong with using your shuffle setting on your iPod. You end up hearing all kinds of weird songs that you would never listen to in your right mind. My only defense is that I loaded this one up because Don was whining that I don't have any music on here that he likes to listen to. Well, what does he like? Apparently BEP.

2. John Saw That Number- Neko Case
     Here's another one I've not heard before. I got this album (Fox Confessor Brings the Flood) because it was recommended by my son Bryan and I liked the name. Neko Case has the strongest voice I've heard in a long time. "Hold On, Hold On" is on my road trip playlist, but this one may end up on there as well.

3. Am I Blue- George Strait
     I probably have about 100 George Strait songs on my iPod. I'm not kidding. I have a four-disc boxed set, plus I got a 50 number one hits cd for Christmas a couple of years back. One hundred plus George Strait songs and my iPod picks this one? Are you kidding? I guess it is pretty representative of this artist. Very twangy and country. ::sigh::

4. Minimum Wage- They Might Be Giants
     Here's a quick little song (47 seconds) from a quirky band. I've seen their videos on the Disney Channel or NickJr. Did you know there is a TMBG podcast that comes out every now and then? Well, that one's over already... on to the next.

5. You're Beautiful- James Blunt
     This is a frequently played song for me. It's on my road trip playlist as well as the Grey's Anatomy playlist. I love the first line... "My life is brilliant...my love is pure..." It's a nice pop song to sing along with. Lost love... bad words... a light melody... it's got it all for me.

6. I Could Not Ask For More- Sara Evans
      One of my favorite songs, hands down. I've used it for a slide show before that featured Mikey pictures. The sentiments in this song are exactly how I felt after I had my son. Isn't it scary when you realize that you have everything you've ever wanted? Where do you go from there? For me I have just decided to hang on and enjoy the ride. "Right here in this moment is just where I'm meant to be.. here with you... here with me...." Love this song.

7. I Like To Move It- Madagascar
     Now how did this song get in here?? This is MIKEY'S favorite song on the iPod. It's from the Madagascar movie, the part where the lemurs start dancing. When we're out getting groceries or making a Target run, we plug this in and all three of us jam together. Good times...

8.  Centerfold- Pink
     Speaking of jamming, here's a real rock song. I got this album because of the song Dear Mr. President. I admit that. But there are some other good songs on here. Stupid girls is fun and this one kind of reminds me of that. "I'm going to hate you until I forget you..." Those are great lyrics and this is a great breakup song.

9. Make a Mistake- Brad Paisley
     Here we are back on the country side. I'm into all kinds of music, except Yoko Ono existential weird stuff. Make a Mistake has a good message. We're all going to mess up sometime. We might as well do it together. Brad Paisley is really hot these days. Last week he had the top two songs on the country music chart. His new album gets a lot more play on my iPod, but this song is okay too.

10. I Hope You Dance- Lee Ann Womack
     When I left my last school I put a slide show together with PowerPoint and used this song. I found it in the drawer the other day when I was rummaging around for blank cds. I love this song. It expresses perfectly the way I feel when my classes leave me every year. I wish so much for them and hope that I've given them some skills that they can use to be successful in life. It's been a common graduation song for years, but it is because it's perfect.

Now I'm off to do what I'm supposed to be doing. I was going to fire up the iPod so I could do some dishes. But then I realized that I hadn't loaded up some new songs I wanted to listen to. So I turned on the computer to sync the Pod and realized that I hadn't blogged yet this morning. Kind of like a twisted version of "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie." My version must be... "If You Give a Blogger an iPod" or something like that.

The People in Your Life

I don't usually pass on stuff that comes through my inbox or that I see online, but this one really spoke to me. It's been making the rounds of the blogs lately. I've had many friends in my lifetime and being a military kid meant that many who were close friends are now lost to me. So to those who have been reason, season, or lifetime friends, I dedicate this:

PEOPLE COME INTO YOUR LIFE FOR A REASON

People come into your life for a reason, a season or a lifetime. When you know which one it is, you will know what to do for that person. When someone is in your life for a REASON, it is usually to meet a need you have expressed. They have come to assist you through a difficulty, to provide you with guidance and support, to aid you physically, emotionally or spiritually. They may seem like a godsend and they are. They are there for the reason you need them to be.

Then, without any wrongdoing on your part or at an inconvenient time, this person will say or do something to bring the relationship to an end. Sometimes they die. Sometimes they walk away. Sometimes they act up and force you to take a stand. What we must realize is that our need has been met, our desire fulfilled, their work is done. The prayer you sent up has been answered and now it is time to move on.

Some people come into your life for a SEASON, because your turn has come to share, grow or learn. They bring you an experience of peace or make you laugh. They may teach you something you have never done. They usually give you an unbelievable amount of joy. Believe it, it is real. But only for a season.

LIFETIME relationships teach you lifetime lessons, things you must build upon in order to have a solid emotional foundation. Your job is to accept the lesson, love the person and put what you have learned to use in all other relationships and areas of your life. It is said that love is blind but friendship is clairvoyant.

Thank you for being a part of my life, whether you were a reason, a season or a lifetime.

What were you doing 10 years ago? January 1996.
I was living in Lubbock, Texas. The kids were all teenagers at the time and I was going to school to become a teacher. That was the semester I did my final practicum, working with sixth graders at a school in downtown Lubbock. (The semester before was spent in Kindergarten, so I was thrilled to be in an intermediate classroom for a change). The boys were in basketball and baseball. Jenny played soccer and ran track. I put many miles on the mini-van driving them around. From the outside looking in, things looked picture-perfect. It was not.

 

What were you doing 1 year ago? January 2005
Last year I was teaching second grade and Mikey was potty training. It felt like neither would end. I was also taking Lupron for my female issues, which led to more migraines, which became a whole other issue in itself. What a difference a year (and a hysterectomy) makes.
